“Fat Man Blues” – Blues Fiction by Richard Wall

Fat Man Blues tells the story of “Hobo John”, an English blues enthusiast on a pilgrimage to present-day Mississippi. One night in Clarksdale he meets the mysterious Fat Man, who offers him the chance to see the real blues of the 1930s. Unable to refuse, Hobo John embarks on a journey through the afterlife in the company of Travellin’ Man, an old blues guitarist who shows him the sights, sounds and everyday life in the Mississippi Delta. Along the way, the Englishman discovers the harsh realities behind his romantic notion of the music he loves and the true price of the deal that he has made.

The 60minuten Blues Interview: ANTHONY GOMES – Feb 7

#1 Billboard Blues Artist, Anthony Gomes, has been creating burning blues since his recorded debut in 1998. 12 releases and numerous awards and ecstatic accolades later, the aptly-named, riff-laden Electric Field Holler crackles with his bare wires passion.

Gomes’ formidable guitar chops and authentic singing place him in the forefront of modern blues. This, along with his high-energy shows and dynamic stage presence, make him one of the top draws on the Rock/Blues circuit today. Headlining concerts in 17 countries, Gomes has shared the stage with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Robert Plant, Jeff Healey, Heart, Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Word of Anthony’s performances has reached Eric Clapton, Morgan Freeman, John Goodman, Toby Keith, Jonny Lang, Ron White and Vince Vaughn who have all attended Gomes’ concerts. Perhaps the greatest complement was offered by Morgan Freeman who jokingly professed that Anthony was, “not bad for a white boy.”

Gomes is also an award winning blues history scholar, earning the University of Toronto’s C.P. Stacey Award for the highest overall academic grade point average by a history major. Anthony completed his master’s degree thesis on the racial and cultural evolution of blues music, graduating with high distinction.

Believing that music can inspire the human spirit, Anthony founded the Music Is The Medicine Foundation in 2010. This non-profit organization is dedicated to changing the lives of others through the healing power of music. Through private donations and winning sizable grants from State Farm Insurance and CVS Pharmacy, the foundation has funded songwriting scholarships, offered music education programs, and donated musical instruments to those in need.

Anthony Gomes sings and plays with integrity and deeply felt emotion oblivious to fortune and fashion. The resulting music is a blazing cathartic experience radiating therapeutic heat for body and soul.
