BluesMusicFan Radio is so fortunate to have had an opportunity to spend time with Jeff Plankenhorn (www.theplank.net), the interview airing three times this week. If you are music geeks like us, you are going to love the great details that Jeff gets into. Some things that DJ Cheyanne and Jeff gets into are Jeff’s unique dobro-like guitar “The Plank” made by Empyreal Instruments, and some of the production aspects and featured artists on his new album Soulslide
The Jeff Plankenhorn Interview Airs:
TUESDAY, JULY 26 at 4 PM
FRIDAY, JULY 29 at 2 PM
SUNDAY, JULY 31 at 4 PM
Jeff touches on what its like to be moving from side man to front man, other artists that he has worked with (Joe Ely, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Bob Schneider), and talks about his band who played with the late Stephen Bruton and you get a sense of the Austin music scene.
Jeff also discusses the inspirations for songs on the album, such as “Like Flowers,” where he teams up with Ruthie Foster, the lyrics inspired by a Charles Bukowski quote. Listen to the lyrics and you’ll understand the album artwork.
The nicest thing about the interview is that after you listen to it, you really get a sense of knowing who is Jeff Plankenhorn, the musician. Song excerpts from the album SoulSlide include: Lose My Mind, Like Flowers, Vagabond Moonlight and Trouble Find Me.
The guy is real and seems approachable. He’s smart, he knows his business and he is doing what he is meant to be doing in this life, which is making music for us all to hear, and what a gift that is.
